Welcome Our New Alaska Region Technical Assistance Specialist

Updated: 4 hours ago

The Intertribal Agriculture Council (IAC) is excited to welcome Katie Herzner, our newest Technical Assistance (TA) Specialist serving the Alaska Region. Katie will work closely with Tribes and Tribal producers across Alaska, providing technical assistance and support. While Katie primarily serves Northern Alaska, she will collaborate across the Alaska region. We’re thrilled to have her on board and look forward to the impact she will make in strengthening food sovereignty and supporting Alaska’s Tribal communities!

MEET KATIE HERZNER

Kathleen (Katie) MaryAnn Herzner  is Sitnasuakmuit, “A Person from the Land by the Water,” from Nome, Alaska. She is an enrolled member of the Nome Eskimo Community and a descendant of the King Islanders who relocated to Nome. Katie credits her grandfather, an accomplished reindeer herder who helped establish the Reindeer Herders' Association, for shaping her deep connection to her culture and traditional foods. She holds a certificate in Tribal Governance and an Occupational Endorsement in High Latitude Range Management from the University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Indigenous Studies. Passionate about Inuit food sovereignty, she hopes to strengthen food security in Alaska through her work with IAC.
